The idea of choosing a “One Little Word” to reflect upon during the year and as you go about your daily life always seemed kind of fun to me. Somewhat of a challenge. It’s almost like you're making a theme for your year but only using one word to describe it. This will be the third year that I took part in this idea and here are what my past words were…
2017 - EMBRACE
2018 - INTENTIONAL
This year-- My word is FOCUS.
I am really trying to figure out the ways that I can incorporate this word into my year. There are so many things that I want to FOCUS on in 2019. One of the main things being my overall health and wellbeing. I’m going to be completely honest with you. I tend to put myself and my health last over anything else. I usually don’t eat every meal, every day. I don’t exercise. Like, at ALL. The last time I had a consistent workout routine was probably back in high school. In GYM CLASS. Which was 8 years ago. (yikes) I remember dreading gym class every day but man do I miss that constant push to get my workout on! We couldn’t say “ehhh, I don’t feel like running today, I’m going to skip gym.” You just couldn’t. I’m pretty sure you needed to pass gym in order to graduate? Anyway… I’m also the pickiest eater, probably ever. If I could eat pancakes, french fries and strawberries for every meal and every day, I would be happy. So this year, I am going to make it a huge effort to FOCUS on my health. Make meal plans with Brian so we are eating a well balanced diet. Get outside and MOVE. MY. BUTT! If anyone has a good workout plan that they do from home, let me know! I’m not a huge fan of going to gyms. 1. Because every time I tried it, I had no idea what I was doing, felt embarrassed and left! And 2. Just, ew. The amount of sweaty hands that touch those machines. Ew.
Another area that I want to put my FOCUS on is my marriage with Brian. This October we will be celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary (and 9 years of dating, yay!)! I want us to go on more dates like we used to during our first year in dating. I want us to create systems in our new home that make us feel like we’re actually, home. Systems like meal planning/prepping together! Grocery shopping together! COOKING TOGETHER! (yes, I am going to make an effort to make more appearances in our kitchen, if you know what I mean!) Less screen time at night and before bed. FOCUS. ON. US. <3
Self love. It’s a thing, people. I really want to FOCUS on being the best version of myself when it comes to my physical appearance. A few months ago (actually in July when Brian and I had our 8 year dating anniversary photoshoot to be exact), I just started grasping the concept of wearing more makeup than just poofing some powder on my face. Thanks to YouTube and help and encouragement from a few friends (lol…) I now know what the heck concealer is and where it’s supposed to go. But if you asked me to “contour” my face, I might look like a deer in headlights. But hey, we’re making progress! I really want to pay attention to how I dress, how my hair looks, how my makeup looks, and how my nails look because I know this for a fact, that this plays a big roll in your confidence. Not saying that looks are the only thing that matters, but it does make you feel a little more polished and put together, and I want a little more of that this year.
One more thing that I really want to FOCUS on this year, is literally exactly that. Put my head down and FOCUS on what’s important and what has to get done. I can’t even tell you how many times a project was pushed back, or something was done at the very last minute and I ended up not being proud of it because it was rushed, or I made a very clear to do list for a day of things that needed to get done and by the time my head hit the pillow, nothing was accomplished. I am so guilty of procrastination. Heck, we didn’t even send out Christmas cards last year because I waited until the very last minute to put the idea in my head of “hey, you should probably send these out because Christmas is in 5 days”. But by that time, I felt that it was too late, and it never happened. (friends and fam, I’m sorry!!) So this year I really want to push into my head to stay in my lane, stop paying attention to what every one else in the world is doing, and FOCUS on what ‘I’ need to get done and what is important to me, my business, and my little family!
I’m hoping to find a print or maybe even design something myself with my word that I can keep on my desk so I look at it every single day! I have a really good feeling about this years word. I really do! It’s just going to take some discipline and FOCUS, but I think this is going to be the best year yet! :)
Can you identify a single word that sums up what you want for yourself in 2019? Let me know! I’d love to hear it and the goals you have behind it!
